Aerospace
The Aerospace Industry in the UK has a turnover of more than
£25 billion and it is an industry of which we are rightly proud. Not only are aerospace products amongst the highest technology and most complex designs in the world, but they face almost unique challenges on safety, reliability, fuel efficiency and increasingly on cost.
In the civil world, with the increasing market share of low cost airlines and price sensitivity on fares, the need for improved fuel efficiency, increased hours between services and lower manufacturing costs are greater than ever.
In military circles, government budgets are coming under increased scrutiny and pressure. ‘Cost plus’ has disappeared and the whole industry is feeling much greater pressure to deliver both on time and on or below cost.
What we do
Newton have an operational (not strategic) focus and work alongside local teams on the shop floor to increase productivity. Our approach is strongly implementation biased, and we understand that however good the idea, it is making it work that requires the greatest effort. In doing so, projects typically achieve a 10-50% increase in productivity within 2-6 months without capital expenditure. These results are supported by our guarantee, so we are always focused on the same result as our clients.
Newton's work in the Aerospace Industry has covered the following areas: assembly, composites, tooling support, machining, forging, design offices, precision casting, material cost reduction, repair and overhaul, injection moulding, as well as new line design and development.
Associate Director Ian Quest runs the Aerospace sector for Newton. He began his career with Rolls-Royce in Derby, working on the development of the Trent series of engines and combined his aerospace experience with several years of manufacturing improvement. Ian joined Newton in 2002, where his work has been focused on Aerospace and Defence.
