WHAT IS THE ROLE?

Newton work on all kinds of projects, in virtually any sector. Such as making daily working life simpler and more effective for thousands of supermarket shop floor staff, for instance. Or ensuring more social care service users lead independent lives. Or enabling thousands more patients to be seen in clinics.

Newton is an established operations consultancy with a breadth of client projects. We’re investing heavily in our digital and technology capabilities. As such, you’ll face the agility and entrepreneurial nature of a start-up but with the security, resource, and opportunity of an already successful consultancy.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will build the platform that enables both our client facing and internal technology teams. You’ll be responsible for ensuring that our end users have an efficient and effective technology service built on a reliable and secure technology infrastructure.

  • Azure Integration Services SME. You will design & deploy services that meets the needs of our technology teams for project delivery. While maintaining those already in a BAU (Business as usual) state.
  • Design & build virtualised infrastructure that meets the needs of our client-facing technology teams for project delivery.
  • Influencing teams around platform design best practices, automation, and security principles
  • As an Azure Cloud Infrastructure SME, you will bring your experience during incident management or complex support issues, taking the lead where needed to ensure the best outcomes.
  • Working closely with the management team to deliver the cloud infrastructure roadmap.
  • Working with our clients to deploy projects into diverse technology environments while meeting scalability and reliability requirements.
  • Production & continual improvement of standards & supporting documentation.
  • You will be an advocate for driving continuous improvement.
  • Continuously explore and evaluate new tools, technologies, and best practices related to cloud integrations, API development, and DevOps to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

You’ll work alongside our Digital consultancy teams to advise and implement the client solutions they work on. That might be building a secure architecture to deliver insight to a healthcare organisation, building a scalable platform for a data intensive retail solution or guiding how we test and deploy a simulation tool in the defence sphere.

The role will require some travel with a combination of working from our office and remotely with potential travel to client sites across the UK were beneficial. We’re open to conversations to how this works best for you.

YOUR EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

You’ll be a high calibre individual, with exceptional levels of personal drive and eagerness for personal development. An analytical mind, coupled with strong communication skills and a positive attitude are essential to fit into the Newton culture. While your technical expertise is important, we’re also interested in how you’ve engaged with wider teams to understand their domain so you can maximise the impact of your technical background.

Essential experience we’re looking for includes:

  • SME level experience working within a Microsoft Azure cloud team.
  • Azure Integration Services: Proficient in utilizing Azure Logic Apps, Service Bus, Event Grid, and API Management to design and implement integration solutions.
  • API Development: Solid understanding and practical experience with SOAP and REST APIs, including designing, developing, and managing APIs for secure and efficient data exchange.
  • Azure Data Lakes: Experience working with Azure Data Lakes, including data ingestion, storage, and processing, leveraging technologies such as Azure Data Lake Storage and Azure Data Lake Analytics.
  • Proficiency in using Bicep, the Azure-native infrastructure-as-code (IaC) language, for provisioning and managing Azure resources.
  • Strong expertise in building and testing CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, ensuring smooth and automated deployment of integration solutions.
  • Experience with Github version control.
  • Microsoft Azure Certifications.
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
    • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
  • Experienced designing virtualised infrastructure environments including compute, virtualisation, storage and security.
  • Experience with security vulnerability management and remediation.
  • Experience of administrating Microsoft environments such as Windows Server and SQL Server.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members as well as sharing learnings more broadly across our business.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Microsoft Azure Certifications.
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
  • Experience with other environments such as Linux
  • Worked with engineering teams building technology products ideally including microservices or serverless designs
  • Knowledge of Python and related data science stacks (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Azure Machine Learning Service and Studio, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks)
  • Containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Worked with agile frameworks and practices and tools such as Azure Boards or Jira
