DIGITAL WHAT WE LOOK FOR
The people who work with us are very much individuals, but there are certain values and attributes all of us share.
Whatever your background – STEM, Arts or Humanities, and whether you have a Bachelor's degree, a Master's or a PhD – these are the qualities we look for:

Attributes we look for
We assess everyone on their own merits. We like people from diverse backgrounds with different ways of thinking and unique skillsets. It’s what helps us deliver the most creative and effective solutions for our clients.
Curiosity
Show us your curiosity. Prove you have a desire to leave no stone unturned when thinking up ideas and developing skills to improve yourself.
Belief
We want you to have belief in your abilities and respect for the talents of others. That’s how we work and we want to know that’s how you’ll work too.
Insight
No matter what degree you’ve studied, if you have the ability to use data to uncover meaningful insight, we would like to see it.
Tenacity
Demonstrate your will and determination to get things done. Complex and time sensitive problems are the most satisfying to solve. How have you showcased this before?
A supportive approach
You’ll need to be open to collaborating with clients and colleagues to discover the best solution.
Team spirit
It’s important that you’re ready to work hard as part of a team. This will allow you to form bonds that’ll help you rise to any challenge and will often develop into lasting friendships.
Key requirements
Are you...?
Self-driven & determined
Able to motivate yourself and look for opportunities to improve things? Staying motivated even through a task or project might be challenging.
Willing to travel
Working hand in hand with our clients to get the best results means being on-site and away from home during the week.
Flexible with your approach
Consulting isn’t your standard 9-5 role. Our ability to create real impact for our clients sometimes involves working longer hours during a critical stage of the project.
Empathetic
Successful consulting requires working well with others. This could be with our clients, who you’ll work with early on in your career at Newton, to your wider team. We achieve more through collaboration and cultivating stronger bonds.

Potential for Growth

Transferable skills
Being part of a society or team demonstrates a keenness to go out and do things which will result in individual skills and behaviours.
Effective Communication
Communication skills are absolutely critical - it’s that two-way exchange of information to make sure that the problem is understood and the solution works to solve it.
Academic Background
Everything from core pure maths to geography - you don’t need to have a technical degree to be able to do this and really shine.
Intellectual Curiosity & Leadership Potential
It’s important to have a growth mindset; someone who challenges assumptions, explores all possibilities and demands better.

FAQs
-
Does it matter if I do not have a scientific or engineering background? Our consultants come from a variety of educational backgrounds, including art, music, and language. However, regardless of degree, our consultants are required to have strong analytical skills. There is a focus on testing your mathematical and data analysis abilities in our application process, but we do not require a science-based degree subject of our candidates.
-
What are the key skills you look for?We look for brilliant people who’d bring a range of skills to Newton. As we work on some of the most complex problems in the UK, we look for strong analytical skills and creative problem-solving abilities. Additionally, we work hand-in-hand with our clients so excellent interpersonal and communication skills are incredibly valuable as well.
-
Can I apply if I already have experience? Or should I apply to Experienced Hire? Our experienced hire positions are only open to people with a minimum of 3 years of relevant consulting experience. Our graduate positions are open for anyone to apply. However, we must be transparent and stress that these are graduate positions and cannot be adjusted for candidates with several years of experience in other industries. All our graduates are treated the same, so this could become tedious for someone with many years of experience in previous positions.
-
Do I need to have a 2:1? Is the offer conditional on my degree? There is no formal degree classification required for the role, however, we do look for strong analytical skills which are assessed in our online test.
-
Is there a limit to when I can apply after I’ve graduated? (e.g., if I graduated 3 or 4 years ago, can I still apply?)
We accept applications from already-graduated students, including previous candidates, so there is no time limit. That being said, if you have three or more years of relevant consulting experience, you would most likely be more suited to one of our experienced hire roles. More information about that can be found here: https://www.newtoneurope.com/careers/experienced
